Losing valuable data, be it in the form of sensitive documents or irreplaceable media files, is one of the risks that digital storage has brought to us. iFinD Data Recovery has been designed to make the experience of losing all kinds of data and information that we thought gone forever less frustrating. It scans your drives, cards, and other storage media in search of lost, deleted, or formatted files and partitions, and brings them back to life in an efficient manner.
The program opens a simple interface with three clear options – Lost File Recovery, Lost Partition Recovery, and Scan Result List. The third option will let you review the results gathered by the program during its latest scan process, allowing you to browse the found files either by file or type. When it comes to the two recovery options offered, both work in a similar fashion. The first step is to perform a thorough scan of the drive(s) selected, which may take a while even with not-so-huge hard drives. I guess that’s the price we have to pay for a serious and thorough search of our drives, a wait that the program’s astonishing data retrieval rate tends to compensate.
You will struggle to find a file type or format that iFinD Data Recovery cannot identify and retrieve. Image files (JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, RAW, SWF, etc.), videos (AVI, MOV, MP4, WMV, FLV, etc.), audio tracks (MP3, WAV, Ogg, APE, AIFF, etc.), Office and Office-based documents (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, HTML, PDF, etc.), e-mail PST or DBX files, and even archive files (ZIP, RAR, etc.) fall within the scope of the wide range of file formats supported by this tool. And the ones listed here are but a sample of a much longer list. The same versatility can be found in the list of devices supported – from standard hard drives (both internal and external) to USB drives, pen drives, camcorders, music players, photographic cameras, SD and CF cards, and so on and so forth.
Once the scan process is over, the program will list all of these lost documents and media in a clear and easy-to-browse way, either by file extension or by file type. When it is a partition that you need to recover, this tool will list all partitions found in the selected drive or device, providing you with their size and system type. As all the found files are listed using template names such as FileXXX.jpg, which makes previewing them before recovery an essential feature. Regrettably, not all file formats yield the same results. Image files tend to work fine, allowing to you to double-check their contents effectively before recovering them, but text-based files are a different beast altogether. Except for plain ASCII files, most Office and Office-based files are shown as a load of unintelligible characters, which makes it impossible to retrieve a specific PDF or DOC file without recovering them all first. Still, everything is always better than nothing.
iFinD Data Recovery finds and recovers formatted, deleted, or otherwise lost files from formatted partitions and unreadable cards and hard drives due to a wide variety of reasons. It does not matter if your data was accidentally or intentionally deleted from your camera, USB drive or photo camera – this effective tool puts at your disposal all the means you need to bring them back in an extremely simple yet highly efficient way.
